Delaware House
Downtown Bend, Oregon

The Delaware house is situated in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Bend, Oregon amongst early 1900’s mill worker housing. The neighborhood is an eclectic mix of old cottages and newer interventions. The clients chose the location for its walking distance proximity to downtown, the Old Mill District, and the Deschutes River with its extensive trail system. The massing of the home is intentionally broken into smaller components to sympathize with the scale and proportions of the existing neighborhood. A courtyard is carved out of the center of the home to create maximum privacy for the requested outdoor living spaces. The project features a 3.2 Kw PV array to offset a significant amount of the home’s electricity consumption. Landscaping is native drought tolerant species, requiring almost no watering.
